Recap for AENY Meeting 5/15/07

Hi everyone-

If you missed the last meeting, you missed a great one. Sorry, but it had to be said... We had awesome presenters and HUGE amount of prize giveaways (almost 30!). Ah, well. Don't feel too bad. There's always next time! We won't taunt you, but we will give you the skinny on what you didn't get to see (you poor souls). Seriously, it was a great meeting with some great insights into professional workflow and technique.

Just to recap, we started the night off with some food and drinks (thanks Adobe!) where we had a chance to connect with others in our industry. In fact, a representative from CNN was looking for AE animators in the NY area, and they came to AENY! That's right. We're doing our best to bring not only AE related information to you, but jobs, as well.

After that, Aharon made some announcements and then... things got crazy...

We kicked off the program with a great presentation from Curious Pictures. Sang Bay - Associate Producer of Little Einsteins and Supervising Technical Director of Curious Pictures - and Andy Mastrocinque - Little Einsteins Animation Director, specializing in AE and Maya- talked to us about workflow, character animation, digital puppetry and integration of 2D and 3D animation.

After we watched a 10 minute highlight reel from Curious Pictures, including Little Einsteins, the Crunch Fitness stop-motion Ads, and some other motion graphic work, the audience got to ask questions about how things were done.

Following that, Alan Lorence from Wondertouch software, gave a demo of the lightning fast particle generation software: particleIllusion 3 - a program which comes with 1900+ presets out of the box. Aharon Rabinowitz backed him up by showing how he uses particleIllusion to use the software with After Effects to generate looping motion graphics backgrounds and lower 3rds within seconds.

Finally, we moved on to door prizes, where we gave away a ridiculous amount of After Effects related products, and where we announced an awesome deal for AENY members on Imagineer Systems revolutionary rotoscoping tool Motor. The deal is over, but they were practically giving it away at $299 instead of the usual $1595. Stay tuned for other great deals coming soon.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors (see below) we gave away thousands of dollars worth of After Effects related prizes. Dennis couldn't make the meeting, so "Apple Jim" Geduldick helped run the meeting and demonstrated his awesome powers of shaking up the door prize tickets. Aharon worked up a sweat giving the prizes away. Someone needs to hit the gym...

If you’ve just come to the website after hearing about AENY from a friend or anywhere else, join us for our next meeting on June 28.  We’d love to meet you and learn more about what you’re doing and of course, what you’re doing with After Effects!

Stop by our website (aeny.org) to stay updated, or visit the Adobe After Effects New York forum at Creative cow.

Again, thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

Best regards,

Your friends at Adobe After Effects New York
